Async standups: what works, what dies in a week
We've tried four formats. The one that survived is the simplest: what you shipped, what you're working on, where you're stuck.
The format matters less than the consequence. A standup that produces a list nobody reads is theater. A standup that surfaces a blocker someone can clear in the next hour is signal.
The thing that kills async standups in a week is the absence of follow-through. If "I'm stuck on X" goes into the void, people stop posting. If "I'm stuck on X" routes to someone who can unstick it, the cadence becomes the operational heartbeat of the team.
